Teaching-learning process of the undergraduate in Primary Health Care during the first confrontation with COVID-19

Introduction: Cuban medical universities face the challenge, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, of maintaining the training of human resources and directly supporting actions to prevent contagion from the population. Objective: to describe the development of the teaching-learning process during the integration of students from Health careers to Primary Care in the fight against COVID-19. Method: A descriptive cross-sectional study was developed from March to July 2020 in the Santo Domingo municipality, Villa Clara province. In addition, information was collected from files of the Teaching and Municipal Hygiene Department. 305 students and 15 teachers were inserted in 44 clinics, previous contextual analysis, modifications were implemented in the didactic strategies for distance education through the use of mobile phone data using the WhatsApp application. Results: With a predominance of asynchronous methods, it was possible to maintain an informative and updated flow of the necessary statistics for the daily reports, information on different subjects, health status of students and teachers, the ideological political work was strengthened by countering the infodemic and other disinformation campaigns by establishing links with other groups administered by the FEU and the group of communicators of the University. Conclusions: The dynamic response of the cloister with the insertion of Information and Communication Technologies during the research work allowed to give continuity to the teaching-learning process and obtaining successful results in the first confrontation with the pandemic in the municipality.Downloads
