Social repercussions of predicting recurrence of cronic subdural hematoma in older adults

Abstract

Recurrence of chronic subdural hematoma represents a health problem with significant social implications in older adults, as it increases disability, dependency, and the burden on healthcare systems in the context of population aging. The aim of this article is to assess the social importance of predicting recurrence in patients operated of chronic subdural hematoma in Camagüey. A narrative, interpretative literature review was conducted covering the period 2023–2026, aimed at integrating morphological and clinical sciences. The findings reveal limitations in the early identification of predictive factors and in the integration of clinical, imaging, anatomohistological, and pathophysiological variables into existing models. The potential of artificial intelligence to optimize prediction and personalize treatment is highlighted. It is concluded that the incorporation of integrative approaches may contribute to reducing recurrence and improving care in a vulnerable population.
