Theoretical foundations of the interdisciplinary approach to enhanced recovery in oncological surgery of the ocular adnexa

Tumors of the ocular adnexa constitute a heterogeneous group of rare neoplasms that nonetheless have a significant functional and aesthetic impact. This article aims to provide a theoretical basis for an interdisciplinary approach as the structuring element of an enhanced recovery protocol for oncological surgery of the ocular adnexa. A theoretical-conceptual analysis was conducted based on a review of literature from PubMed/MEDLINE, SciELO, Scopus, Google Scholar, and Infomed—complemented by Cuban health system regulatory documents—covering the period from january to march 2026. The study examines levels of disciplinary integration and identifies five critical areas where an interdisciplinary approach is essential: joint diagnosis and staging, shared treatment planning, integrated perioperative management, functional and aesthetic rehabilitation, and psychosocial support. The Cuban health system offers a favorable framework for implementing this approach, although further studies are needed to evaluate its impact within the national context.
