Abstract

Introduction: Domestic physical violence against women is a growing scourge, affecting the family, social, and economic environment of a community and a country. The study conducted in Camagüey in 2024 is presented in this article to describe the behavior of domestic physical violence against women.

Method: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted on 39 cases treated at the Camagüey Forensic Medicine Service. Variables were used to characterize the victims and the violent act.

Results: The predominant age group was 20 to 39 years, white race represented 46.1%, 24 women were homemakers, and 33 were assaulted by their husband or ex-husband. The acts occurred mostly at home (94.8%) and 17 occurred at night. In 84.6% of cases, the motive was passion. Non-serious injuries that did not require medical treatment were the most prevalent in 12 cases. There were a total of nine deaths, 23% of whom died, and head contusion was the most common cause of death in 55%.

Discussion: The results are consistent with those of other authors. The age group was 20 to 39 years and white race were the most common. The majority were homemakers and were assaulted by their husbands. The acts of violence occurred at home at night, and the motive was passion. Minor injuries that did not require medical treatment were the most common, and nine resulted in death. Head contusion was the most common fatal injury.
