Abstract

La limitación del esfuerzo terapéutico es considerada por los profesionales de la salud como una buena práctica clínica en las unidades de cuidados intensivos y de emergencia. La misma es el resultado de condicionantes que favorecieron su aparición en el mundo moderno, pero no está exenta de presentar serios problemas actuales, no sólo en Cuba sino también en otros países. Dichos problemas requieren la búsqueda de soluciones rápidas. Esta reflexión realiza un análisis crítico del surgimiento y el desarrollo histórico, como movimiento de signo positivo, de esta práctica médica hasta llegar a su estado actual.
